About Petrina
Petrina Wong, born in Hong Kong, is a pianist with strong passion for music education. She began playing the piano at the age of 5. She moved to Los Angeles to pursue her dream as a musician at the age of 18. Wong graduated with the Bachelor’s Degree in Piano Performance Biola Conservatory of Music, studying with Manami Kawamura, a student of Menahem Pressler. In 2010, she received the “Outstanding Musician of the Year Award” at Biola Conservatory of Music, where she also won the second prize Biola Conservatory Piano Competition and won the Honors Concerto Competition in 2009 playing Chopin’s Piano Concerto No.2 with the Biola Symphonic Orchestra.
In 2012, Wong received her Master’s Degree in Piano Performance at New York University, studying with Jose R. Mendez, a student of Bryon Janis and Solomon Mikowsky, who are two of the most renowned pianists in this century. Wong was truly honored to perform in masterclasses for some of the greatest pianists, like Menahem Pressler, Nelita True, Ann Schein, Jeanne Stark, and Thomas Lanners. Moreover, she had performed in several solo and piano duo concerts in California, New York and Hong Kong.
Wong was formerly an Adjunct Instructor in Piano Studies at NYU. Being an educator, she devotes her heart and passion to share her knowledge and skills to the next generation. She now serves at her own private piano studio in Southern California where she also organizes recitals and enjoys performing with her students every year. She also visits Hong Kong annually to perform at concerts, teach masterclasses, and judge piano competitions.
